All Consuming

As long as I’ve had a web site (blog or otherwise), I’ve looked for a way to easily share what I’m reading, as well as to track what I’ve read.

The now-defunct Library section of Sing Cuccu clumsily served that function. I’ve experimented with lib.rario.us, Listal, and LibraryThing, but they’re more about what one owns than what one’s read. MediaMan already fills that bill for me.

I thought I’d find something in Ning that I’d like, but I didn’t.

I finally settled on All Consuming. All Consuming is part of the 43 network: 43 Things, 43 Places, 43 People, and Lists of Bests. If you’re a member of one, you’re a member of all.

All Consuming allows one to track what books you’ve read, what movies you’ve seen, what music you’ve listened to, what you’ve eaten and drunk (but not in a food log kind of way), or track your consumption in a category called “Other”. You can also track what you’re currently consuming or what you’d like to consume.

The rating system needs some work, as you can only indicate something is worth consuming or not worth consuming (there used to be a “Wishy-washy” choice). However, you can include your own review.

My sidebar is already bloated, so I haven’t included recent and ongoing consumption there. However, you can click through to my list via the menu. If you’re really a fan, you can subscribe to my All Consuming feed:  http://feeds.feedburner.com/AllConsumingSingcuccu.

In addition to tracking my current consumption, I’m transferring my lifetime movie list from IMDB. I’ll probably throw in books I recall reading. Music may come later.

I haven’t participated in the social aspect of All Consuming, in which I can ask members what I should consume yet. But in a moment of boredom, I will.
